As I sit here on this gloomy day at the beach I day dream about my childhood summers. I remember my family and I would all load up in the car with our bathing suits on, floaties in the back and we would sing at the top of our lungs as we took the twenty minute drive to the country club pool. Besides jumping in the water my favorite part about our summer days was stopping at the corner store (Howdy’s) to get our favorite candy. I’ll never forget we would yell HOOOWDYS!!! and that would be the cue for my dad to pull into the parking lot. All of us kids would jump out and run in to pick out our favorite candy. Hot Tamales, Runts, Starbursts, Fruit Stripe Gum, Chick-O-Sticks, Orange Push Ups, Bit-O-Honey…Oh man, those were the days!

This one’s for you Dad!

Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
Then one day he was shootin at some food,
And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.

Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.

Well the first thing you know ol Jed’s a millionaire,
Kinfolk said “Jed move away from there”
Said “Californy is the place you ought to be”
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Beverly.

Hills, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars.

Well now its time to say good by to Jed and all his kin.
And they would like to thank you folks fer kindly droppin in.
You’re all invited back a gain to this locality
To have a heapin helpin of their hospitality

Hillybilly that is. Set a spell, Take your shoes off.

Y’all come back now, y’hear?.

Can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I packed up my car in Texas and made the big move to sunny California. I remember the road trip because I literally cried the whole 1,773.0 miles. There were so many emotions…Happy tears because my dream of going to college in Santa Barbara was coming true and sad tears because I would be so far from family. The day was July 4, 2003 just shy of my 19th Birthday. These past ten years have truly been a blessing.

Thank you mom & dad for all your love and support. Thank you for allowing me to follow my dreams. I could not have done it with out you. To my husband, my best friend. Thank you for believing in me. Here is to many more adventures. Love Love Love. Forever.
